GCH Technologies Launches Modernized U.S. Short Code Registry to Support Evolving Business Messaging

via Business Wire

GCH Technologies today announced the launch of a modernized U.S. Short Code Registry, now operational under GCH as strategic partner of CTIA as of January 1, 2026. The updated platform strengthens the foundation for short code messaging while supporting the growing complexity of business communications.

The Short Code Registry is a centralized database of available, reserved and registered short codes administered by CTIA, the wireless industry association representing carriers and messaging ecosystem stakeholders in the United States. GCH Technologies serves as CTIA’s operational partner, providing technical support for registry operations and advancing registry functions.

Enterprises increasingly rely on messaging channels like SMS for customer engagement, benefiting from high deliverability and engagement performance. SMS open rates can exceed 98%, and click-through and conversion rates for well-targeted campaigns often range from 21–32%, outperforming most other digital communication channels.

Within this environment, short codes play a vital role by providing a trusted, secure, and scalable mechanism for delivering high-volume enterprise messages across complex carrier networks. The registry underpins consistent provisioning and governance of short codes, helping ensure transparency and accountability across enterprises, carriers, CPaaS platforms, and aggregators.

As operational partner, GCH Technologies advances a modern strategy that preserves the registry’s core functionality while evolving its underlying architecture. Key priorities include a more modular platform design, increased flexibility to support emerging technologies and messaging workflows, and infrastructure built to adapt to changing industry requirements.

“The Short Code Registry is foundational to trusted business messaging, and its evolution must reflect where the industry is headed,” said George Cray, CEO of GCH Technologies. “Working alongside CTIA and ecosystem partners, we’re strengthening the platform’s core while building in the flexibility needed to support richer messaging experiences and future messaging innovations.”

Development of the registry is guided by ongoing collaboration with carriers, CPaaS platforms, aggregators, and enterprises to ensure alignment with real-world operational needs.
